چکیده

In this paper we seek to relate the influence of the geometry and distribution of fracture aperture to the fluid flow properties of the fracture. Coupling fluid flow and transport experiments to high-resolution laser scanning confocal microscopy (LSCM) enables tracking of local fluid velocity and particle trajectories, and allows direct quantification of variations caused by surface roughness. These data, together with the geometry of fracture, are incorporated into a directly coupled numerical model of fluid flow and transport.

The Effects of Forming Parameters on the Single Point Incremental Forming of 1050 Aluminum Alloy Sheet

The single point incremental forming (SPIF) is one of the dieless forming processes which is widely used in the sheet metal forming. The correct selection of the SPIF parameters influences the formability and quality of the product. In the present study, the Gurson-Tvergaard Needleman (GTN) damage model was used for the fracture prediction in the numerical simulation of the SPIF process of alum...

Experimental and Numerical Investigation of Rock Dynamic Fracture

Rapid development of engineering activities expands through a variety of rock engineering processes such as drilling, blasting, mining and mineral processing. These activities require rock dynamic fracture mechanics method to characterize the rock behavior. Dynamic fracture toughness is an important parameter for the analysis of engineering structures under dynamic loading. Several experimental...

Differential transport and dispersion of colloids relative to solutes in single fractures.

This work employed numerical experiments simulating colloid and solute transport in single parallel-plate fractures, using the random walk particle tracking method, to demonstrate that (1) there exists an aspect ratio of the colloid radius to half the fracture aperture, delta(o), where the average velocities of colloids and solutes are similar. When delta>delta(o), the velocity distribution ass...

Transport of polydisperse colloid suspensions in a single fracture

The transport of variably sized colloids (polydisperse) in a fracture with uniform aperture is investigated by a particle-tracking model that treats colloids as discrete particles with unique transport properties while accounting for either matrix diffusion or irreversible colloid deposition. For the special case of a monodisperse colloid suspension the particle-tracking model is in perfect agr...

Trapping zones : The effect of fracture roughness on the directional 3 anisotropy of fluid flow and colloid transport in a single fracture

8 [1] In this paper we quantify the influence of geometry and 9 distribution of surface roughness to the directional 10 anisotropy of fluid flow and transport properties of a 11 single fracture. Roughness of fractures appears to have first 12 order control on how they behave mechanically and 13 hydraulically. We directly quantified the surface roughness 14 of a single fracture using high-resolu...
